Although we don’t live in New York, we’ve been in a decidedly New York State of mind this summer. After a glorious stay in Lake Placid, it was time for our annual visit to Ithaca, the place my aunt and uncle have called home for decades. My mom has taken the girls there every year since they were toddlers. For the past couple of years I’ve joined them. This year, for the first time in a very long time, my husband also came for a few days.
Celebrating my cousin’s marriage on Lake Cayuga by eating, drinking, making merry and skipping rocks.
Every summer, the girls go to Ithaca with my mom to visit my aunt and uncle. And every year, I wish I could go with them. It’s admittedly tiresome to experience this same longing year after year. Will I ever do something about it?
In the meantime, all I can do is enjoy the photos my mom sends, including these two taken a couple of hours ago at Lake Cayuga.
Is that Chloe practicing for some future job as a lifeguard?
We’re having a very family weekend this first weekend in October. My aunt in Ithaca is celebrating her 60th birthday and my uncle is throwing a big party for her tomorrow. We left the house this morning and made it to the Finger Lake region in record time, but it was an extremely disappointing drive.
While I am thrilled that Chloe and Sophie are having a fantastic time in Ithaca, I am jealous that they get to enjoy wave pools, waterslides and gorges while I have to get up on a beautiful summer morning to go to the office.
