And making itself heard. The wind has increased exponentially since a couple of hours ago, and a first tree branch (small, thankfully) has fallen on our roof with a thud.

High School Musical Redux
Five years ago, Chloe absolutely loved the “High School Musical” movies. She wasn’t a singer or a dancer, but she adored the songs and the dancing. I’m not sure how many times I saw the first movie (she watched it multiple times), but she eventually grew out of them and they became a distant memory for me.
A Little Reminiscing
We rediscovered this adorable video of a 2-year old Sophie dancing to music from “High School Musical.” Watching it, we realized that Chloe was 7 years old at the time, Sophie’s age now. It truly is amazing how quickly time flies.
Some things, however, have not changed. Sophie’s hair is still just as curly, just a lot longer. And she still has two of her “security” towels, albeit riddled with holes, and her cherished lamb, Shirley.
Sophie’s Smarts
I’ve always thought that little Sophie would not be nearly as academic as Chloe. She’s smart, but not interested in learning. Sophie is the social butterfly and Chloe is the intellectual, and never the twain shall meet, so to speak.
Chloe Just Spit at Me
And she just spit at me again. Because I won’t let her use MY computer. And because the iPad isn’t good enough for her. And she doesn’t like surfing the Web on her iTouch. Chloe complains a lot.
National Bosses’ Day
I learned that it was National Bosses’ Day today when I received a call from the receptionist at my office that a delivery had arrived for me. Without a clue as to who could possibly be sending me a gift – other than knowing that it was not my dear husband – the only thought I had was that it was some vendor attempting to catch my attention with some lame giveaway.
Meet Madison
We had two dwarf hamsters. We’re contemplating getting a dog, but we’re not quite ready to make the commitment. We don’t really care for fish or hermit crabs, and I do not like cats. But Sophie and I fell in love with Madison when we saw her at our local arts & crafts fair. Madison is the newest addition to our art collection and she’s a clock. Made by a couple from Ohio who collect antiques (their studio is called The Perfect View), dismantle them and recycle them into sculptures, Madison’s piece de resistance is her belly, which is made from a 1927 toaster. Her beautiful curls also come from the toaster. Her shoes were cobbled from ebony piano keys and her earrings are antique cabinet keys. There’s a feather attached to the second hand because time flies.
Welcome to the family, Madison!
A Day in the City with Chloe
We started at the MoMA, scouting out works of art for a potential scavenger hunt for Chloe’s birthday. And going on a tour for tweens run by the museum’s education center. The programs are a terrific deal – if you attend one, you receive free admission to the museum and a free pass to use on a future visit for up to five people. Probably one of the best kept secrets in the city.
Day 1, A.E.
Today is officially Day 1, A.E. (After Esperanza). Yesterday’s goodbyes were tearful and bittersweet. But we know we’ll see her again soon. The girls were testy with each other last evening, and it crossed my mind that they were acting out because of Esperanza’s departure.
We Love You, Esperanza
These photos say it all. One more day before Esperanza is officially retired. The next time she comes here, she’ll be visiting as a cherished family member.
