Sophie captured the essence of this beautiful Alpine region, when she asked me, in all seriousness, if the mountain scenery was a poster. She didn’t comprehend that she was looking at real mountains, with vestiges of real snow and thousands of real trees.

We’re Here!
We made it. The photo below depicts the gorgeous view from our apartment. Wow, does it feel good to be back in this city I love so much! The water in the canal is crystal clear and feeds into Lake Annecy, which is considered the cleanest lake in all of Europe. Can’t wait to go swimming!
We’re Almost There!
We’ll be arriving in Geneva in about four hours. Our flight left the gate on time, but was then delayed for almost two hours on the tarmac because of stormy weather and simply because JFK Airport is JFK Airport, which really aspires to be a small town airfield in the middle of nowhere, with only a single operating runway. Seriously. But who am I to complain? I’m on vacation. After all, we did finally take off.
One More Week!
At this time next week, we will be flying Swiss Air on our way to France. After all the planning, it’s hard to believe that we’ll finally be packing our bags this weekend. I cannot wait to be in Europe again – after a five-year hiatus, I feel a little like I’m returning home.
Annecy, France

I Am Obsessed
I am obsessed with the idea of taking the girls to France next summer. Not just for two weeks, but for the summer. I want them to really get to know their father’s country.
Shenandoah National Park and the Luray Caverns
We decided to prolong our road trip by an extra day to glimpse the Blue Ridge Mountains and explore the Luray Caverns. Not a voyage I would have ever considered making, but for the fact that it was more or less on our way home. And I’m so glad we took the detour.

So Long, Hilton Head
As they say, a photo is worth a thousand words. Here are a few thousand words worth of beach memories.
Of Horses, Ponies and Palmetto Bugs
We started the day off by going horseback riding. Chloe, Papa and me. Chloe has great horseback riding posture. I, on the other hand, was aching all over when the hour was done. Really aching. However, my horse, China, was a pistol. While everyone else on the trail meandered along on their horses, China treated me to some trotting along the way. And I didn’t lose control.
Communing With Nature
The morning activity consisted of a bike ride to the horse stables, which also feature an adorable petting zoo. Goats, deer, pigs, llamas, rams…and let me tell you, those animals are enjoying life. Each goat had its own little house.
