We visited our third cavern in less than two years today. First, it was Luray Caverns in the Shenandoah Valley in September 2010, then it was La Grotte de Seythenex in France in June 2011. Today’s underground exploration was at the Inner Space Cavern in Georgetown, Texas. We have visited more caves in the past 18 months than I’d visited during my first 42 years on this planet.
Funny that in the middle of central Texas in a group of 20 people – 50 feet below the ground – we heard French. When I asked the woman where she was from (France, but living in Austin), she was visibly just as surprised as I was to hear another person speak her native tongue. Note to my dear husband – this is yet another warning to you that you never know when someone is going to understand what you’re saying.
In addition to spending some quality time underground, Sophie has also bonded with her cousin-dog, Lucy, and her aunt. It’s been a lot of fun.
