Yesterday morning, Sophie jumped into bed with me and innocently asked, “Mommy, can you quit your job today?” This is becoming a common refrain with her.
After explaining to my little Sophie that such a thing wasn’t possible “today,” she went into her thinking mode. The wheels were turning. I again asked her “Why?” This time around, she was a little more forthcoming.
“Because I want you to stay home because Papa never plays games with me because he’s working in the attic!” In essence, she wants me home so that I can become her default play date. That’s kind of cool. I can live with that, as long as no arts & crafts are involved.
Let’s be clear. If I win Mega Millions tonight, this whole quitting my job thing becomes a moot point. Because I will be extremely busy managing my charitable foundation, and running the children’s bookstore (it would, of course, be a not-for-profit entity devoted to children’s literacy) I’ve always dreamed of owning.
