Sophie enacted a law today. After not seeing me over the weekend because she was at her Grammy’s and not seeing me on Monday and Tuesday night because I had dinner plans, I made the mistake of mentioning to her this morning that I had another dinner planned tonight.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Sophie started to cry because as I’ve mentioned before, she’s a master manipulator. “Mommy, you need to have dinner with me tonight!” she sobbed, indignant and angry. I promised her that tonight would be the last night of the week that I wouldn’t be home and she started to calm down.
Once Sophie dried her tears and had a chance to ponder her mother’s perfidy, she looked at me with a twinkle in her eye and commanded, “Mommy, you are not allowed to go to dinner with people I don’t know ever again. Unless you take me with you.” Period. The end.
She’s something else, my little one. And she’s also very lucky. Because Chloe kindly agreed to give Sophie her old Nintendo DSi and Papa announced the big news this evening. She’s apparently already mastered the first level of MarioKart. See, the good news about my going out with people she doesn’t know is that she gets to play video games. The fact that she’d still rather have me around, in spite of video game nirvana, is a good thing, I suppose. I’ll enjoy it while I can.
