The day I’ve been dreading is quickly approaching. As I’ve already chronicled on this blog several times, our dear babysitter, Esperanza, is retiring at the end of next week. As the fateful day approaches, my anxiety is nearing record-high levels.

My Towels!
We had a bit of a scare tonight. Sophie couldn’t find her two towels. They’d been missing since yesterday.
We Are Cool Parents?
Red flag alert. Red flag alert. When your 11-year old tells you that her friends like having sleepover parties at your house, the alarms should go off in your head.
We Are Despicable Parents
Sophie doesn’t like being told ‘no.’ She detests losing at games. She hates it when we don’t pay exclusive attention to her. But most of all, she loathes it when she tasks us with selecting a bedtime book and we choose one that doesn’t meet her expectations. The list of perceived and real slights could go on forever, but I’ll save more examples for a future post.
They’re British?!?!?!
We’ve been watching the opening ceremonies for the 2012 Summer Olympics, which has an act that serves as a fantastic tutorial in the history of modern (i.e., the last 50 years or so) British music.
Our First Visiting Day
With much anticipation we made our way to Chloe’s camp for visiting day this morning. When we arrived, Chloe and her friends were looking out the back window of the bunk, waiting eagerly for their families to arrive.
I’m Grounded
Sophie enacted a law today. After not seeing me over the weekend because she was at her Grammy’s and not seeing me on Monday and Tuesday night because I had dinner plans, I made the mistake of mentioning to her this morning that I had another dinner planned tonight.
My Chloe
Chloe graduates from elementary school (5th grade to be exact) on Wednesday. It’s hard for me to believe that this milestone is upon us. It’s also hard to believe that schools feel the need to mount an entire ceremony for 11-year olds. The school even subjected the kids to a rehearsal, no less. As I’ve stated many times before, children today are way too coddled.
Mystery Solved
Loyal readers of this blog have likely noticed a recurring theme in my posts over the past several months. In this particular instance, I’m not talking about my struggles as a full-time working mom wanting to spend more time with my girls. The theme I’m talking about is the noticeable detente between Chloe and Sophie that has endured for several months.
It’s Hard to Believe (Random Thoughts)
That another school year is just about over. That Chloe will be starting middle school in the fall. That Sophie will be a second grader.
That Chloe will be leaving us in less than two weeks for a month of sleepaway camp. That it’s almost officially summer.
