…with the mild winter we’ve been having, it feels like summer is just around the corner. While Sophie and I were in Texas, Chloe convinced her Papa to buy a Zoku ice pop maker. Their first attempt at making a pop was with chocolate. No surprise there. What was surprising was that they didn’t like that concoction so much. Tonight, they experimented with kiwi and cherries. It was certainly a much prettier-looking pop, although they weren’t huge fans of the resulting taste combination.
Chloe now wants us to buy all sorts of fruit this weekend so that she can make more ice pops using the accompanying recipe book, which calls for ingredients like agave nectar, as a guide. Hey, if this thing gets the girls to eat more fruit, I’m all for it.
According to Chloe, I should write about how amazing she is because that “never gets old.” And no, she hasn’t paid me to write this blog entry.
So here I am, respecting her wishes. She’s amazing even though she thinks she knows everything, talks way too much, especially during TV shows, is a bit too judgmental for her age, doesn’t make her bed, only wears jeans…
I could continue to summarize the areas in need of development, but that would take a few more hours.
Instead, I will concede the fact that Chloe is pretty amazing, despite the flaws. Let’s face it – it’s hard to resist an 11-year old who has such a high opinion of herself.
Sophie is now a Texas cowgirl fashionista. Look closely at the photo and you will see why. And yes, those boots go against everything I stand for in my blog. But it’s hard to resist an adorable six-year old who behaves amazingly well for five days on a trip far away from home. And the only other kids’ boots were an ugly brown.
So I caved. Sophie is very proud of her boots and has every intention of wearing them to school. As we all know, she has a pretty wild fashion sense. And she doesn’t give a hoot about what others think. Who am I to stifle that independence and creativity? Besides, when in Texas, do as the Texans do. And the Texans buy cowboy boots.
After waking up with the roosters this morning, we arrived in Austin. Sophie’s first words to her uncle were, “Aren’t you glad I’m here to annoy you?”
Needless to say, Sophie, when she wasn’t passed out from exhaustion after waking up with the roosters, was more than happy to annoy her uncle. Her dog-cousin, Lucy, loves her. The feeling is mutual. On tap for tomorrow: rain, a movie and Torchy’s tacos.
Sophie and I arrive in Texas tomorrow morning. Yee-haw! Texas hasn’t seen the likes of 6-year old Sophie.
Sophie can’t wait. And I can’t wait for my special trip with Sophie. This is the first time we’re traveling together, just the two of us. Sophie’s excited to spend time with her uncle and aunt, and her dog-cousin, Lucy.
But I think she’s even more excited to be missing a day of school tomorrow. Sorry, Uncle James and Aunt Romy.
I’m looking forward to checking out the new food trucks in Austin and just spending some quality time with my brother and sister-in-law. See you tomorrow!
Chocolates and cards. That’s what we gave each other this morning. Sophie made us all an adorable card in school today, featuring a drawing of her and Chloe exchanging Valentine’s Day missives. It goes without saying that Sophie definitely wins the prize for the most effort put into this year’s Hallmark holiday.
Finally. We’d been waiting a couple of weeks for this tooth to fall out. It was stubborn. Extremely stubborn. It hung by a thread these last few days, impeding Sophie’s ability to eat. We kindly offered to pull it out for her, but she refused our generous proposal. She wanted it to fall out in school. Because when your tooth falls out in school, you get special treatment. No such luck for Sophie this time around, however. The tooth decided to wait until the weekend. I adore the big gaping whole in front of Sophie’s mouth.
I am sure that when you read the headline you thought you’d be watching a video of Sophie dancing. Alas, you are going to be sorely disappointed. I have two adorable videos – filmed last night – of Sophie dancing to some of Chloe’s music. But Sophie is in a bad mood tonight and refused permission. And I have to respect her feelings. Because I’m her mom.
I thought that we had miraculously bypassed the mandatory tween slumber party thing with Chloe. But, alack and alas, this was not to be. Chloe decided that she wanted to host a sleepover for her and five friends for her 11th birthday. This big event is tomorrow. And I can’t wait until it’s over!
