This is a photo of Sophie after she had lovingly set the table last night for my birthday dinner. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, Papa and the girls prepared a great meal to mark my special day. And tonight I came home to another nice dinner of chicken, couscous and grilled veggies.

Ten Things I Loved About My Birthday Today
These 10 things made me a happy 42-year old today.
(1) Having a cheerful, homemade dinner with my family – quiche lorraine, salad and chocolate mousse. Yum.
RIP Alubus (2008-2010)
Alubus died last night. Almost two years to the day since we brought him and his brother, Gloup, home.
Tree Hugger!
We bought the Christmas tree earlier today. Chloe helped him put the tree in its stand, during which time she discovered the joys of tree hugging.
A Braid!
I constantly prod Chloe to allow me to buy her cool barrettes (skulls!), style her hair, trim her bangs. You know what it’s like. Begging. Pleading. Faking a severe illness to induce guilt. Until today, Chloe hasn’t let me touch her hair in months, except to pat her head.
New Glasses
I picked up two new pairs of glasses today, one a pair of sunglasses. My new everyday glasses are much different from the pair I’ve been wearing for the last couple of years. Metal frames instead of plastic, blue instead of a multi-color purple/yellow/brown mix.
The 2010 Gingerbread House
The girls and Grammy made a very inviting gingerbread house this year. I really love the marshmallow accents and the use of the green icing.
The Loom
Grammy gave Chloe a beading loom for Hanukkah. Looks harmless enough, but boy does it hold some secrets. Namely, that it was created to bring nine-year olds to tears.
Macaroni Song
I have no idea what any of this song means, but Sophie learned it on the school bus and sings it frequently. It’s about macaroni and bunnies, and I don’t know what else. And she’s not quite certain of the words at the end. But boy, she sure is working it. A born choreographer.
That said, I am confident that this is one of those moments she’ll want to revisit in about 15 years.
Another Lost Tooth
This time, it was a big tooth. And there was a fair amount of blood, which made Chloe very happy. So happy that she had me take this photo. You can see the red hole on the bottom right.
