Opryland truly is a small continent. Actually, it’s kind of like another planet. With an immense indoor outlet mall, a 25-screen movie theater and a huge hotel called the Gaylord Opryland, the likes of which I haven’t seen outside of Vegas. It has several (yes, several) huge lobbies replete with indoor waterfalls and rivers. Not to mention the Grand Ole Opry itself, which is a lot less impressive in person than I expected. It’s essentially a big brick building.

Belle Meade Plantation
For the first time in many, many years I explored a new city on my own (poor husband had to toil away at work). As much as I adore my amazing girls and my husband, I don’t remember the last time I had the opportunity to discover a new place on my own terms. It was delightful (and it helped that the weather was beautiful).
Nashville!
The girls are with my mom for their winter break and I invited myself on my husband’s business trip to Nashville. We arrived a few hours ago and spent a couple of hours exploring the main drag downtown. After lunch, we hit a bar and listened to some live music, which is everywhere. There are a lot of bars up and down Broadway and each one seemed to offer live bands – some of which were as country as they come while others were a little more rock. The band that was performing in the photo fell into the latter category, thankfully.
Happy Valentine’s Day
Sophie was extremely disappointed that the clothes I picked out for her this morning consisted of jeans and a blue and green striped shirt. According to her, I have absolutely no clue about how to dress for Valentine’s Day. So my little fashionista picked out her own holiday-themed outfit today and made sure to wear a big heart necklace and two heart rings, and a new dress that’s meant for summer. And lots of pink, of course.
The Hoarder
Sophie is a self-admitted hoarder. She announced this morning that she is actively maintaining the following collections:
Sledding!
Sophie and Papa went sledding earlier today. They had a great time, as evidenced by the video below.
Snow!
Our first real snowstorm in more than two years. We awoke to almost a foot of the white stuff on the ground. Papa’s new snowblower, bought just before Hurricane Sandy struck in October, came in handy – up to a point.
In the Tank
Sophie’s first official story, “In the Tank,” is officially here. She even dedicated it to Ella, one her her very best friends. It’s all reproduced below (verbatim, 7-year old spelling and all). Enjoy!
We Need To Be More American
According to Chloe, in order to be more American, we need to eat dinner while watching the Super Bowl next time. She paused the game earlier while we supped and now we’re suffering through the first quarter while the rest of the world is already watching the halftime show.
5+6+1 Candle = 12
Chloe couldn’t decide what she wanted to do for her birthday. To have a party or not have a party? She wasn’t particularly stressed about her indecisiveness, surprisingly enough. That’s because her birthday present this year is one for the ages (at least for Chloe).
