I don’t know where the time has gone. Another year, another Thanksgiving and before we know it, another Hanukkah, another birthday (I can’t really bear to think about that) and another Christmas.
And in just a few short weeks, I’ll be turning the page on 2012 and greeting 2013 with a mix of happy anticipation and nervous anxiety about whether the new year will bring more of the same or something different.
This week has been a long one. Work is insanely busy, our front door lock called it quits for good and needs to be entirely replaced, and during all of this craziness, my dear husband was sitting pretty in Nashville.
Here I was, the day before the hurricane, making fun of my husband for buying a snowblower as a consolation prize when all of the generators were sold out.
And making itself heard. The wind has increased exponentially since a couple of hours ago, and a first tree branch (small, thankfully) has fallen on our roof with a thud.
Five years ago, Chloe absolutely loved the “High School Musical” movies. She wasn’t a singer or a dancer, but she adored the songs and the dancing. I’m not sure how many times I saw the first movie (she watched it multiple times), but she eventually grew out of them and they became a distant memory for me.
We rediscovered this adorable video of a 2-year old Sophie dancing to music from “High School Musical.” Watching it, we realized that Chloe was 7 years old at the time, Sophie’s age now. It truly is amazing how quickly time flies.
Some things, however, have not changed. Sophie’s hair is still just as curly, just a lot longer. And she still has two of her “security” towels, albeit riddled with holes, and her cherished lamb, Shirley.
I’ve always thought that little Sophie would not be nearly as academic as Chloe. She’s smart, but not interested in learning. Sophie is the social butterfly and Chloe is the intellectual, and never the twain shall meet, so to speak.
And she just spit at me again. Because I won’t let her use MY computer. And because the iPad isn’t good enough for her. And she doesn’t like surfing the Web on her iTouch. Chloe complains a lot.
We had two dwarf hamsters. We’re contemplating getting a dog, but we’re not quite ready to make the commitment. We don’t really care for fish or hermit crabs, and I do not like cats. But Sophie and I fell in love with Madison when we saw her at our local arts & crafts fair. Madison is the newest addition to our art collection and she’s a clock. Made by a couple from Ohio who collect antiques (their studio is called The Perfect View), dismantle them and recycle them into sculptures, Madison’s piece de resistance is her belly, which is made from a 1927 toaster. Her beautiful curls also come from the toaster. Her shoes were cobbled from ebony piano keys and her earrings are antique cabinet keys. There’s a feather attached to the second hand because time flies.
Welcome to the family, Madison!
