Watching Sophie sing and dance puts a smile on my face, no matter how sad I may be feeling. This video is particularly smile-worthy. Sophie singing and dancing along to a version of “DJ Got Us Fallin’ in Love” by Usher performed by kids.

Sponge Bob
Sponge Bob is the cure for all ills. Chloe and Sophie love Sponge Bob. They’re watching “Sponge Bob” right now, as a matter of fact. Why are they watching “Sponge Bob” at 8:45 pm?
So Much for Spring
Loyal readers of this blog will recall that I was ecstatic last Friday. Bright blue sky, temperatures in the 70s, an ice cream truck at work (that ice cream truck dude must have been really happy for the early windfall)…
“The Bat” by Chloe
It seems that Chloe heard the call of my freelance writer pitch after all. She tried to negotiate an extra quarter for her poem, but I stood my ground. If she wanted to me to publish her poem, she’d have to accept one dollar or lose her chance for fame and fortune.
***********
A certain bat lives around here
In the castle to the right
And all the animals cower from him
Whenever he’s in sight
But if you started watching him
You’d notice something queer
That out from the castle
Big, long scary shadows always seem to leer
You might notice this too
That at dawn he disappears
And doesn’t come back ’till dusk
For that’s when he’ll be your worst fear
Eventually something will come out
To scare the life out of you
But there won’t be anyone to hear you shout
’cause that bat was a vampire too
And like all others he likes to suck blood
So he’ll make no exceptions for you.
Job Offer?
Chloe is trying desperately to find ways to earn more money. We have started to give her a weekly allowance in exchange for chores, but once she sets aside her charity and savings allocations, she doesn’t have much left to spend.
“My Awesome Grandma” by Chloe
A Spring Tease
The weather doesn’t often put a smile on my face, but today nothing could remove the smile plastered on my face. Not work, not quarreling daughters, nothing. Two days before the official start of spring, the sun was in full blast mode and the temperature hit a balmy 75 degrees. After an interminable winter, today served as a reminder to all of us that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Sunlight, that is. And we’re ever so close to seeing much more of it.
Japan
I have been riveted to the computer these last few days, watching the disaster in Japan seemingly get worse with each passing minute. I can’t imagine what it would be like to experience an event so incredibly devastating.
Sophie the Messy Artist
For a kid who’s always asking, “Do I have anything on my face?” Sophie has no compunction about getting messy. In contrast to me at her age, when I couldn’t bear to wear anything with dirt on it or to get dirty myself, Sophie doesn’t mind so much as long as her face isn’t blemished.
Relaxing Weekend
It was one of those rare weekends that just fell into place. Things at work were finally calm after several weekends in a row of nonstop nonsense. We made a nice meal for some neighbors, who came over last night to enjoy quiche lorraine and mousse au chocolat. And I don’t mean the proverbial “we.” I mean the literal “we.”
