In winter there’s lots of snow
The grass and flowers do not grow
But summer is by far the most fun
Sleepaway camp is number one
Eventually winter does come back
Bagging summer in a sack
And I’m as excited as can be
Chloe has discovered her inner Leonardo da Vinci/Thomas Edison/Alexander Graham Bell. She has invented her very own cardboard bubble gum dispenser. She was dismayed when she saw a real one at the store selling for $40. Smart enough to realize that would be a big fat waste of money (her own money, that is), she decided that there was nothing like resorting to homespun methods in order to get what she wanted.
I love rock ‘n roll
That music comes from the soul
There are keyboards, drums and guitars
It’s out of this world
Just like Neptune, Venus and Mars
Rock ‘n roll’s my favorite type of music in the world
The secrets of music are unfurled
If you listen to it with your heart and ears
It might bring some monumental tears
Yeah!
(You’ll all be interested to know that she came up with this poem in less than 10 minutes).
As we get ready to welcome the first day of winter tomorrow, Christmas on Saturday and 2011 in a few more days, happy holidays to all of our family and friends!

B’loonies. I forget what these make-your-own acrylic bubbles were called when we were kids, but when Chloe and I recently visited the Toys ‘r Us in Times Square, she wanted to buy some. I said no at the time, but she continued to ask, and we found them last week in a local Toys ‘r Us store.
“Couscous is a vegetable. Just like rice and potatoes.”
No, this was not a statement out of Sophie’s mouth. Nor was it a statement out of Chloe’s mouth. This assertion came out of my French husband’s mouth – not five minutes ago.
This is a photo of Sophie after she had lovingly set the table last night for my birthday dinner. As I mentioned in yesterday’s post, Papa and the girls prepared a great meal to mark my special day. And tonight I came home to another nice dinner of chicken, couscous and grilled veggies.
These 10 things made me a happy 42-year old today.
(1) Having a cheerful, homemade dinner with my family – quiche lorraine, salad and chocolate mousse. Yum.
Alubus died last night. Almost two years to the day since we brought him and his brother, Gloup, home.
