Five days of vacation and it’s back to the grind tomorrow. Work is looking to be fairly hectic over the next two weeks, and I’m looking forward to celebrating the end of what has been an incredibly long year work-wise.

Eating Too Much
It all started on Wednesday evening with a steak and seafood dinner to celebrate birthdays and a not-too-distant Ph.D. for my brother.
Happy Thanksgiving
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Thanksgiving is by far my favorite holiday. There’s no religion, no ceremony. Just family reuniting around a large table eating a lot of food, and enjoying each other’s company and each other’s differing views. On this particular occasion, there was also a little more excitement than usual: police activity (including helicopters and boats) in and around the Hudson that had us all frantically using binoculars and checking our iPhones, blackberries and laptops to find out what the hell was happening (rumor has it that it was a poor lost soul who decided to take a jump from the bridge – a stark reminder that times are still tough for many people).
The Hobbit
Chloe is reading “The Hobbit” by J.R.R. Tolkien. Enthusiastically. “It’s REALLY good!” she just exclaimed. I’m impressed. I don’t think you could have paid me enough to read that book when I was a teenager, let alone at 9 years old.
Long Weekend…Time to Relax
I was looking forward to the long weekend – taking an extra day off tomorrow in anticipation of my favorite holiday of the year. I got home a little earlier than usual, only to have to deal with a relatively minor last-minute work issue that prevented me from decompressing as quickly as I had hoped.
Sophie’s Fort
Sophie woke up yesterday and had a brilliant idea. She gathered most of the pillows in the house to make herself a fort. The fort’s walls took up most of the living room. No one was allowed in. Least of all her sister.
Silent Sophie Dancing
One day, Sophie will watch this video and laugh. She always dances so dramatically. I think that in this particular interpretation, she’s channeling a princess whose prince has tragically turned into a toad. Or something like that.
Sophie has absolutely no interest in taking classes, but boy does she love to dance. Makes me wonder where she’ll be when she’s older. Will she still like to dance? Will she still have a good ear? Will she try out for some televised dance show? Will she ever perform in public? She’s such a girly girl!
To Vegas or Not to Vegas?
That is the question of the day. As a 42nd birthday present, my mom has very generously offered to watch the girls for most of the week between Christmas and New Year’s so that my husband and I can get some much needed R&R.
Chloe’s Prediction for 2025: Awesome!
Marionnette
Sophie rediscovered her Pinocchio marionnette, a gift that my brother and sister-in-law gave to her as a souvenir of their travels to Italy last year. In this clip, Pinocchio sings and tries to dance to “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.”
