Sophie’s birthday week has officially concluded. With a bang. And a parachute. I love you, my Sophie bear.

What I Want
I want to write. I want to do something creative. I want to have my own store (I’m still hooked on the idea of a children’s bookstore). I want to be my own boss.
The School Cliques Have Started
The cliques have landed. I was hoping that we wouldn’t have to deal with that awful word for another couple of years, but alas, here we are. Not even 10 years old and the cliques have started to form. The in-crowd, with the one dynamic leader who attracts the other kids (even the fifth graders!) into her web. The “cheerleaders,” who don’t cheer, but who try to lead their apostles by yelling at them. The weirdos. The loners.
Happy 5th Birthday, Sophie!
The first thing Sophie asked us this morning, after we wished her a happy birthday and she crawled into our bed for a 5-year old cuddle: “Did I lose my baby fat on my butt?” Really. I am not exaggerating. “No, not yet, sweetie. You still have the cutest butt ever.” Rest assured, Sophie did not burst into tears upon hearing my response. Instead, she cuddled with us some more.
Much Ado About Nothing
This is going to be a stream of consciousness blog entry, inasmuch as today was a fairly uneventful day. The weather finally felt a little like fall this afternoon, and the clouds were out in full force. With only few days until October, I imagine we’ll be saying “until next year” to our shorts within the week.
I Am Obsessed
I am obsessed with the idea of taking the girls to France next summer. Not just for two weeks, but for the summer. I want them to really get to know their father’s country.
A Few Days Until Five and a Few Months Until Ten
Four days until Sophie turns five. That’s a big milestone. And just four months until Chloe turns ten. Another big milestone.

“A Reverie of Mine” by Chloe
Chloe’s latest work of poetry. By hook or by crook, we’ll get her published soon!
*********
When I had my dream
It took awhile to understand
I was in a land plush and green,
With bubbling springs at hand
The sky was clear,
With not a cloud in sight
But instead I saw
Birds of every color
Chirping with delight
There were trees full of apples,
Golden to be precise
And if you took a bite
Any wish could come true,
That’s when I started,
Flying through the bright blue
I went up and up
Higher and higher
Until I reached the moon
But that’s when I heard
A ring-a-ding-ding
And I woke up much too soon
End of Summer
Fall is fast approaching. School is underway and the last day of summer 2010 is Tuesday. Fall is my second favorite season, second only because it’s the lead-in to winter, and I intensely dislike winter.
I Love My Kids
It’s an obvious statement of fact. But after a difficult week at work, when most days I’d come home in the evening and just want to be alone, my girls made me smile.
